I’ll probably catch some heat for this one…

People love to complain about the Jeep 2.4L MultiAir engine. The internet will have you believing every one of them is a ticking time bomb. Here’s my take after buying and selling a whole lot of them: I’d buy one again tomorrow.
The Jeep Cherokee, Compass, and Renegade with the 2.4L MultiAir have become some of the best values on the used car market. Why? Because people get scared by what they read online, and depreciation does the rest. That creates opportunity for smart buyers.
Now let’s be brutally honest. This isn’t a Toyota. If you ignore oil changes, abuse it, and expect it to forgive you forever, you’re asking for trouble. The MultiAir system depends on clean oil, so maintenance isn’t optional—it’s mandatory.
But here’s what we’ve experienced at Bernard Motorcar Company. When these SUVs have been maintained properly, they’ve been dependable, comfortable, fuel-efficient, and affordable. We’ve sold a pile of them, and customers keep coming back happy.
Another bonus? You can often buy a newer Cherokee, Compass, or Renegade with better features for the same money an older Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 will cost you. That’s value.
Every Jeep we consider gets a thorough inspection before it ever reaches our lot. If it doesn’t meet our standards, we simply don’t buy it. It’s that simple.
The internet is full of opinions. I’ll stick with real-world experience. If you’re shopping for a dependable SUV under $15,000 in Conway, Myrtle Beach, or anywhere along the Grand Strand, don’t overlook the Jeep 2.4L MultiAir. It just might be one of the best bargains most people scroll right past.
